The Shallows Resort offers activities for all ages and activity levels. Whether you prefer boating, biking, shopping or relaxing, the Shallows is the ideal Door County vacation spot.
At the Shallows
While you may come to Door County for its beautiful parks, radiant bay waters, and extraordinary shopping and dining, you’ll return year after year because of the warm hospitality and picturesque setting of Shallows Resort. Resting along 375 feet of stunning Green Bay shoreline, you’ll discover a home away from home with any of our wide variety of lodging which include guest rooms, townhouses, cottages, and private homes. As a family-owned and operated resort, we have created a family-friendly atmosphere with plenty of onsite amenities to keep everyone, young and old, happy and entertained.
Discover a world of activities as you wander our lush grounds, dotted with fragrant flower beds and the shadows of maple trees. Make your way down to our gently sloping shore, where you can launch a canoe, kayak or rowboat. Bring your rod and reel along to catch dinner, or simply enjoy the tranquility of being out on the water, with its rhythm of gentle waves and sights and sounds of wildlife around you. Perhaps, you’ll even take a refreshing dip. It’s a nice respite from the summer sun.
In the mood for more fast-paced fun? You can practice your back swing on our tennis courts, swim laps in the heated pool or hop on one of our bikes to ride along Horseshoe Bay Road, Door County’s most scenic route, lined with limestone bluffs and rolling farmland. Spring brings amazing wildflowers – lady slippers, trillium and violets – to the journey, and fall creates bursts of brilliant colors you’ll never forget.
Unwind in the afternoon with a good book on your deck. Or catch a few rays from the lounge chairs out on our manicured lawns. No matter what adventures you embark on during the day, bring your camera and head down to the shoreline as the sun begins to descend. Embrace your sweetheart or cuddle with your family and watch the sunset’s array of breathtaking colors cascade across the bay’s waters. It’s the only suitable grand finale after such an amazing day in Door County.
But, the fun’s not over yet! Build a campfire and recount the day’s events over s’mores and laughter. Or, retire to your room to watch a family flick. Every Shallows unit has a color TV with DVD player featuring ESPN, CNBC, HBO and HBO Family, while all of our cottages and houses include satellite or cable TV. An extensive DVD library is also available for your kids’ favorite movie, or for couples looking to relax with a great romantic comedy.
Away from the Shallows
Settle down in your comfortable bed for the night and dream of tomorrow’s possibilities. Dad may have the many challenging golf courses within four miles of the resort on his mind; while mom is imagining all the amazing shopping – antiques, jewelry and homemade Door County favorites she can do in Egg Harbor, just three miles away. The kids, besides picturing beating the one another at tennis or sitting in the hot tub, are thinking of the fun they’ll have in Peninsula State Park. This “crown jewel” of Door County is 10 miles from the Shallows and will delight your entire family with spectacular hiking and biking trails, natural sand beaches, a historic watchtower and 18-hole golf course.
Everyone dreams up a different ending for their day – seeing a Shakespearean Drama (mom), dining at an exquisite restaurant (dad), laughing at a musical comedy under the stars (the kids). But, the good news is, it’s all possible in Door County, and it’s all close to the Shallows Resort, where your dreams really can come true!
Your Dream Vacation
Here at the Shallows, your hosts, Bob and Liz Dickson, strive to bring you the best Door County vacation possible with a large selection of lodging, endless amenities and secluded setting. It’s a place where you can feel comfortable letting your kids run free. Our area has remained the same for the near 40 years we’ve been in business with 80 acres of forest and idyllic farmlands surrounding us. Whether you stay in one of our charming motel rooms, deluxe townhouses and cottages, or even one of the offsite luxury vacation homes, you’ll have access to our full list of activities. Jump in the waves on the Bay, canoe or kayak the shoreline, swim in the pool or relax in the hot tub. You can also play basketball or tennis on the tennis court, enjoy a biking trip into town or to the nearby County Park. Whatever you choose to do it’s all waiting for you at The Shallows Resort!
Many of the faithful Shallows guests have watched as the tree in the middle of our main driveway went from a majestic maple to a large stump. In the fall of 2007 artist and sculptor Jeff Olson of Egg Harbor turned that stump into a wonderful sculpture welcoming guests to the Shallows Resort.
Jeff is an accomplished artist and local Egg Harbor resident. He has won numerous (too many to list, sorry Jeff) snow sculpting and ice carving contests in Wisconsin and Illinois. Jeff confessed that this was his first tree carving!
