Our parking lot tree transformed into a piece of art!

Many of the faithful Shallows guests have watched as the tree in the middle of our main driveway went from a majestic maple to a large stump.  In the fall of 2007 artist and sculptor Jeff Olson of Egg Harbor turned that stump into a wonderful sculpture welcoming guests to the Shallows Resort.

Jeff is an accomplished artist and local Egg Harbor resident.  He has won numerous (too many to list, sorry Jeff) snow sculpting and ice carving contests in Wisconsin and Illinois.  Jeff confessed that this was his first tree carving...

Summer helper Eric stands atop the tree stump.

After erecting the scaffolding work progressed at a rapid pace.  By late in the second day there was no doubt Jeff knew how to handle a saw.

White Pelicans are frequent visitors to the waters in front of the Shallows Resort.

By the end of the day you can see the fish the eagle has in his claws.

Day two sees the completion of the eagle and the addition of the white pelican.

Jeff begins to add fish to the underwater portion of the sculpture.

Jeff reports that the lower portion of the tree offers better conditions for detail work.

One more day and it's finished!
