Watch as our parking lot tree is transformed into a piece of art!

Many of our faithful Shallows guests have watched as the tree in the middle of our main driveway has gone from a majestic maple to a large stump.  This fall two award winning ice and wood sculptors will turn that stump into a wonderful sculpture welcoming guests to the Shallows Resort.

Don Berg and Jeff Olson will perform their magic on our landmark tree in the next few weeks.  You may be familiar with Don and Jeff's work if you've ever stopped in Fish Creek at Not Licked Yet for frozen custard.  Don created, managed and produced the first ever International Snow Sculpting Competition for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games Arts Festival in Calgary, Alberta Canada.  He has sculpted in local, state, national, international snow, ice, wood symposiums and competitions.  Jeff is an accomplished artist and local Egg Harbor resident.  He has won numerous (too many to list, sorry Jeff) snow sculpting and ice carving contests in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Watch this site for pictures of Don and Jeff's progress or better yet book your reservation and watch them work while enjoying Door County and the Shallows Resort.

Jeff gets started early Monday morning October 22nd.  Rot in the center of the tree may alter the original design.

Jeff removes some of the rot from the upper portion of the three and gets down to work.  He did have to change the orientation of the eagle due to the condition of the tree.

By the end of the day you can see the fish the eagle has in his claws.

Day two sees the completion of the eagle and the addition of the white pelican.

Jeff begins to add fish to the underwater portion of the sculpture.

Jeff reports that the lower portion of the tree offers better conditions for detail work.

One more day and it's finished!
